The ISO has developed the 22000 standard in recognition that food safety is the most important issue in the global food supply chain today. It gives companies a tool to implement Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) throughout the food supply chain because the standard is suitable for all stakeholders in the chain. Importantly, it aims to provide a single common global standard which could reduce the number of audits carried out each year by retailers and food manufacturers.
